STATEMENT OF THE NEW JERSEY BISHOPS REINSTATING THE GENERAL OBLIGATION TO ATTEND MASS
At this time, due to the observance of public safety protocols and the increase in the availability of vaccines, we have begun a return to some sense of normalcy in various sectors of society.
Therefore, we the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey, are lifting the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Day Mass obligation beginning on Saturday, June 5th and Sunday, June 6th 2021, Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. We welcome the Christian faithful to return to the regular participation in the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith.
This obligation does not apply to those who are ill, those who believe they were recently exposed to the coronavirus or another serious or contagious illness, those who are confined to their home, a hospital or nursing facility or those with serious underlying health conditions. One should consult the local pastor if questions arise about the obligation to attend Mass.
Finally, safety protocols (such as wearing masks, social distancing, etc. and liturgical directives (communion in the hand, communion under one species, etc.) in each New Jersey Diocese remain in place until modified or revoked by the respective Diocesan Bishop.
MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY
Do you have what it takes? We bet you do!!! A Minister of Hospitality is a more elite name for the title that was commonly called ushers. The purpose of ushering in church is not merely to serve people, as at a wedding or in a theater or restaurant, nor is it merely to collect the money. Its purpose is to serve God, to see to it that an atmosphere of reverence and order is maintained before, during, and after the service. It is up to the ushers to keep order, to help create a spirit of worship, reverence, and friendliness in and about the church. It is the usher who serves not only as the public relations person of the parish, but also assists with the security of the building, itself. Visitors receive their first impression of the church from the ushers. And that impression may be the deciding factor in making a visitor a regular
worshipper of this parish, or of causing him or her to go elsewhere, or worse, not go at all.
What is needed in an usher?
LITURGICAL MINISTERS
Eucharistic Minister or Lector
Are you interested in serving at Liturgy as a Reader or Minister of Holy Communion? Both ministries require a brief instruction and training period but are well worth the effort. If you are interested to be part of one or both ministries, please call the parish office or email Tom Romano at rcia@stjudeparish.org and provide your name, telephone number and email. We will inform you about the training.
GLUTEN FREE COMMUNION HOST
If you are in need of a gluten free host please notify the Rectory. The Church has some available. Thank you.
